2. Become an author

How it works:

This function basically adds one more step which is: users have to visit a page and click on an agreement/submit button then they will become an author (that in fact is the contributor role of WordPress). The page is often about limitation, rules, policy, terms and conditions. Its template looks like that:

After users read the page and click submit, they will see an announcement:

Only now, users have the contributor role of WordPress and can start to Add Listing. That’s all about the function “Become an author”.

How to set up:

Let’s go to detailed steps to set up this function.

1. From admin menu click on Settings –> General then set the New user default role to Subscriber (not Contributor or higher role).

2. Go to Wiloke Submission –> Wiloke Submission again. In General Settings area, set Toggle Become an author to Enable.

3. Go to Pages –> Add new to create a new page. And write the content that you want (for example, write about limitation, rules, policy, terms and conditions). Then assign the page’s template to Wilcity Become an author.

4. In fact, this template of Wilcity contains 2 checkboxes – users have to tick agree to Privacy Policy and to Terms and conditions. That means you need to create 2 more pages and write that two contents. Not like Become an author page, those two pages don’t need to choose any special template.

5. After creating 2 pages about Privacy Policy and about Terms and Conditions, go to Appearance –> Theme Options ->> click on Register And Login.
Make sure Toggle agree to the Privacy Policy and Toggle terms and conditions are enabled (as default).
Now let’s look at 2 textboxes for Privacy Policy Description and for Terms and Conditions Description, you will copy links of the new 2 pages that you have created at step 4 and paste the links replacing # inside href=”#”.
Finally click Save Changes.

That’s the 5 steps to set up this function. Those steps are technically easy. The hardest part is for you to write contents of 3 pages.

So, if you enable this “Become an author” function, users must have agreements with your website before they can become an contributor in order to add listing.

Disable this function:

If you don’t want to use this function, do both steps:

Step 1: From admin menu, click on Settings –> General then set the New user default role to Contributor.

Step 2: From admin menu, click on Wiloke Submission –> Wiloke Submission again. In General Settings area, set Toggle Become an author to Disable.

By this way, users won’t see “Become an author” button. They don’t have to pass an agreement page one time before becoming your contributors. Instead, they can immediately add listings. So, it’s your choice to enable or disable this function.
